Deputy Vice Chancellor
Dylan Jones studied History at Aberystwyth University. Having completed his PhD, he undertook roles as Head of History, Head of Humanities, Head of Sixth Form and Deputy Head in various welsh medium secondary schools in South Wales. He was appointed Headteacher at 34 in the Rhondda valley and then went on to establish a new secondary school in the Vale of Glamorgan in the year 2000. It is now an all age, 3-18, school.
He was awarded a distinction in 2012 in the Headteacher section of the Welsh national Teaching Awards.
Dylan has always believed that we should each commit to the furthering of the whole education system for the benefit of all students. To this end, he has participated in many national and local whole system improvement activities, e.g., Chair of the Welsh Education Minister’s School Practitioner Panel and member of the Shadow and Interim Qualifications Wales Board. He also chaired the Welsh Government’s Strategic Education Delivery Group which represents all of the key partners in the Welsh education system and was a crucial part of the National Education Mission implementation plan.
In January 2016 he moved to Higher Education to be Dean of the Athrofa: Institute of Education and Humanities at UWTSD. He was then appointed as Deputy Vice Chancellor responsible for the University Provosts, Student Experience, Civic Engagement, Research Strategy, Marketing and Communications, Sustainability and the University of Wales Press and often deputizes for the VC at key strategic meetings and engagements.
Head of Research Development. INSPIRE
Dr Matt Briggs heads up the Research Development Division in UWTSD’s Institute for Sustainable Practice, Innovation, Research and Enterprise. This division support academics University-wide with research development, governance and management.
Matt leads on the development and implementation of research strategy and policy, including REF2014 and REF2021 submissions, and has played a key role in developing a sustainable research and innovation environment through the University. An experienced project manager, Matt has developed and managed numerous large scale research projects with funding from the EU (Structural, Horizon and Erasmus programmes) UKRI and charitable sources.
Head of Wales Innovation Network
Lewis Dean is head of the Wales Innovation Network (WIN) and Assistant Director of Universities Wales. WIN aims to harness research and innovation strengths at Welsh universities, raising the profile of their work, leading to joint bids to UK and international funders. Lewis joined WIN as its first head in March 2022 from UKRI, where he was most recently Head of Research Funding at Research England, leading a team responsible for the policy underpinning QR funding in England. He has experience working for funders and learned societies on research funding, public engagement policy, and researcher development.
He has been on impact and engagement panels for organisations including Science Foundation Ireland, Royal Academy of Engineering, and NCCPE, and has served as a panelist on Athena SWAN assessments. Lewis has a PhD and research experience in the evolution and development of human ability to innovate.
Dean of the Institute of Management and Health
Wendy was appointed Dean of the Institute of Management and Health at the University of Wales Trinity Saint David in late 2020.
With a nursing background, Wendy holds an MSc in Change & Innovation, and a Professorship in Applied Practice in recognition of her expertise and knowledge in championing professionalism in technology and information.
Prior to her current, Wendy was Head of Workforce and Organisational Development within the NHS Wales Informatics Service.
In 2016 she was instrumental in creating Wales Institute of Digital Information (WIDI) to support the development and implementation of Health informatics Apprenticeships and other learning programmes. WIDI has now grown to include research, development and supporting innovation within its portfolio.
Wendy is a Fellow of the British Computer Society (BCS), Vice Chair for professionalism and is on the board of Federation of Informatics Professionals (Fed-IP) as well as holding Leading Practitioner status.
She has a passion for developing “the next generation” as well developing professionalism across Health Informatics.

Senior Partnerships Manager, WIN
Emma Morris is the Senior Partnerships Manager at the Wales Innovation Network (WIN). WIN aims to harness research strengths at Welsh universities, raising the profile of their work, leading to joint bids to UK and international funders. Emma has led programmes of activity at three UK universities and spent 21 years working as a funder and regulator at HEFCW. Her last role in HEFCW saw her develop and introduce the Research Wales Innovation Fund which underpins innovation at Welsh institutions.
She has been a panel member for SMART Expertise, Sêr Cymru, and has supported panels for UKRI programmes such as Strength in Places. Emma has represented the interests of Welsh universities on various Wales and UK based groups linked to innovation funding and civic mission. She is committed to supporting Welsh universities to build collectively on their acknowledged research and innovation strengths, creating positive social and economic impact for Wales.

A former bank manager, Dr Kathryn Penaluna is Head of Enterprise and the Director of the International Institute for Creative Entrepreneurial Development. Her role includes developing the infrastructure of support for students, graduates, and staff to take forward their own businesses. Activities are informed from her and her teams’ engagement with entrepreneurial education at policy level, including leading projects / undertaking research for the European Commission, the United Nations and the Organisation for Economic co-operation and Development (OECD).
In 2016 Kath was a keynote speaker in the European Parliament in Strasbourg. UWTSD consistently enjoy top figures in the UK for both graduate start-ups and businesses that survive for 3 years or more. In 2022, under Kathryn’s leadership, UWTSD won the Triple E European Entrepreneurial University of the Year.
Business Relationship Manager (Welsh Government)
Huw Williams has worked for Welsh Government in a number of roles including managing the Welsh Gov Business Start-Up Service in 2012 to 2015 and Business Wales Advisory Service and Enterprise hubs from 2016 to 2022.
He is currently a Business Relationship Manager in Southwest Wales. The role is varied – working with many businesses and organisations across the area to support economic development.

Gavin is the Director of Financial Services for UWTSD, with a remit covering the University and its subsidiary companies along with the 2 FE colleges in the Group and University of Wales.
Gavin is a Chartered Accountant with ICAEW with 20 years of experience in organisations such as PwC, GE Healthcare and Barclaycard as well as smaller SMEs in South Wales in manufacturing and online retail.

Co-founder of shipshape.vc, a free investor search engine
Before starting shipshape.vc, Daniel worked in startups and in Management Consulting in Financial Services.
Since launch in September '22, shipshape.vc has helped over 1000 founders with collective raise ambitions of over £1.5bn to research potential investors faster.
In addition to having used their own search engine to find their investors, shipshape.vc is backed by Innovate UK and SMART Cymru Innovation Grant funding and is a UWTSD spin-in. The idea for a free search engine came after experiencing how difficult it was to find investors using existing expensive tools.
FREng FIET FCMI PFHEA FWES MEng DEng MBA MEd PGDiP - Deputy Vice Chancellor, University of Wales Trinity Saint David
Chair of the Board of Trustees, Engineering Development Trust, Professor Elena Rodriguez-Falcon is considered one of the most innovative leader of engineering education reform in the UK.
Following five years working as a mechanical engineer in Mexico she made a huge impact at The University of Sheffield, focusing on enterprise, engineering education and diversity, where she was Institutional Director of Enterprise Education; of Inclusive Learning and Teaching; of Women in Engineering, and of External Relations. In 2012, she gained a Chair in Enterprise and Engineering Education.
In the last five years she has shown outstanding leadership in establishing the first totally new higher education institution in the UK dedicated to engineering. Her inspiration has led to the adoption of a challenge-centred engineering pedagogy at NMITE (New Model Institute for Technology and Engineering) which welcomed its first students in 2021, despite the problems created by the Covid-19 pandemic.
And in late 2022 Elena was appointed Deputy Vice Chancellor of The University of Wales Trinity Saint David. Professor Rodriguez-Falcon has been recognised with numerous awards and professional recognitions, including recently being elected Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering.
Commercial and Partnerships Development Manager
Sarah Kelley is a Commercial and Partnerships Development Manager within INSPIRE. Sarah works closely with internal academic colleagues and external stakeholders to develop and oversee a wide variety of externally funded projects.
Sarah has been with the University since 2009 in which time she has supported a number of large European funded projects alongside supporting academic colleagues to deliver many commercial contracts. Sarah’s current focus is the development of the Carmarthen Campus and supporting academics within the Institute of Management and Health. Sarah’s background is in community development, particularly heritage and sense of place.
Economic Development Manager
Helen Morgan is the Economic Development Manager for Carmarthenshire County Council with responsibility for all external funding opportunities, Regional Learning and Skills Partnership, Employability programmes and community related development.
She is currently leading on Carmarthenshire's £38.68m Shared Prosperity Fund and the Welsh language/economy ARFOR Programme. With vast experience of working in both Programme and Project development throughout Wales, Helen has accumulated an expertise in securing finance to fund key strategic interventions.
Pro Vice-Chancellor (Skills and Lifelong Learning) and Head of the Wales Institute of Science and Art, University of Wales Trinity Saint David
Barry commenced in the role of PVC (Skills & Lifelong Learning) in September 2018. In January 2020 he was appointed to the additional role of Dean of the Wales Institute of Science & Art.
He has had a career in Further and Higher Education over a 40 year period. Prior to commencing his current role Barry held the post of Principal/CEO of Coleg Sir Gar & Coleg Ceredigion.
From 2009 to 2019 Barry was the Welsh Government’s Skills Champion for Wales. In 2013 he was awarded the Leading Wales Public Sector Leader of the Year Award and in the New Year’s Honours List 2019 was awarded the OBE for Services to Skills and Young People in Wales.
Commercial and Partnerships Development Manager
Lisa Lucas has over 20 years of experience in stakeholder engagement and business development. In her current role, she is responsible for cultivating and maintaining strong relationships with a diverse range of companies and stakeholders. Lisa has effectively managed numerous collaborative R&D projects between UWTSD and industry, with a particular focus on the manufacturing sector in Wales.
She has also successfully overseen several pan-Wales European projects that have enabled hundreds of businesses to adopt new technologies and processes, and to upskill their workforce. Lisa's portfolio of industry relationships spans a wide range of companies, from large anchor firms like Aston Martin and Safran Seats to smaller enterprises like Metal Seagulls.
In recent years, Lisa has concentrated on developing strategic partnerships that support the growth and development of the manufacturing sector in Wales, as well as establishing mechanisms that facilitate collaboration between academics and industry. She is highly motivated by the constantly changing landscape of Welsh industry and is committed to making a meaningful contribution to foster and support mutually beneficial partnerships between industry and UWTSD.
Development Manager Welsh Government
As part of the Welsh Government's Innovation team, Samantha works to support Industry led collaborative opportunities with research organisations throughout Wales. Based in North Wales, Samantha has been in involved in R&D and economic development for over 10 years and has experience in supporting activity in a variety of sectors.
PVC and Dean of Education, Humanities and the Social Sciences
Iestyn provides executive oversight and support to the leadership team of the Institute of Education and Humanities (IEH) which includes the university’s Athrofa Professional Learning Partnership for the delivery Initial Teacher Education, its social science provision as well as humanities programmes.
Iestyn commenced his career in teaching and youth work before moving into sales and marketing and then political communications and policy development.
Iestyn’s recent background is in the development of solutions to the drawing together of all forms of post compulsory education and training and the promotion of higher-level technical education. He is now responsible for developing the network of University of Wales Technical Institutes and UWTSD’s development of integrated tertiary education. This work is informed by his previous roles as CEO of ColegauCymru and as the Head of External Affairs for devolved nations at the Federation of Small Business where he led on the development of the principles of the Foundation Economy and the role of skills and technical education in SME growth.
Commercial and Partnerships Development Manager
Hywel Davies is a Welsh speaking Development Manager within INSPIRE – the Institute of Sustainability, Innovation, Research & Enterprise. He is a Chartered Town Planner, PRINCE2 accredited and a former Director of his own business services company.
He has extensive experience of community based regeneration and engagement work, having previously managed a joint WDA/Carmarthenshire County Council regeneration programme. He has also undertaken a wide variety of consultancy projects over a number of years, from the preparation of business plans for local community enterprises (e.g. Brynamman Public Hall & Cinema/Richard Price Centre, Llangeinor), to an evaluation of the Debt Redemption and Money Advice Service for the Wales Cooperative Centre and a review of third sector commissioning and procurement in Carmarthenshire on behalf of the Hywel Dda Local Health Board, Carmarthenshire County Council and Carmarthenshire Association of Voluntary Services.
Hywel is a past UK winner of the Centrica/New Statesman UpStarts Awards for social entrepreneurs and has extensive experience as a school governor and as a director of third sector organisations. He is a past UK winner of the Centrica/New Statesman UpStarts Awards for social entrepreneurs, a former Wales Director of Community Action Network Cymru and a former board member of the Communities First Support Network and the Welsh Government’s Communities @ One programme.
Managing Director Antur Cymru
Bronwen is Managing Director of Antur Cymru a Mid Wales based social enterprise that has worked to support businesses and communities for over 45 years through the provision of business support services including business advice, employability support and grant management. The organisation has a history in delivering innovative IT projects within the region which continues with work around SMART Towns and the roll out of IoT technologies.
Bronwen has significant interest and experience in entrepreneurship gained from starting and running her own businesses and from over 20 years experience of working to support Welsh businesses across multiple sectors. Previously a member of the Welsh Government Supporting Entrepreneurial Women panel ,she is currently non academic lead on an LPIP research project hosted at Aberystwyth University exploring economic regeneration in a rural context and is a member the the Economic Advisory Group for the Mid Wales Growth Deal.
Swansea Provst
Prof Ian Walsh BA(Hons), PhD, FRSA obtained his first degree in 3D Design from the University of Wales, Newport in 1988 and his PhD entitled ‘nurturing innovation in industrial design’ from the University of Wales, Swansea in 2008.
Prof Walsh is Provost of the Swansea and Cardiff Campuses of the University of Wales Trinity Saint David (UWTSD). He has 35 years’ experience as a designer, academic, researcher and innovation manager. He is Director of the Assistive Technologies Innovation Centre (ATiC) and Principal Investigator for the Cerebra Innovation Centre at UWTSD. External to the University he is a member Hywel Dda University Health Board R&I Committee; a Director of Swansea BID; a Director of Gwasg Gregynog and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts (FRSA).
As a former Dean of Swansea College of Art and Executive Dean of the Wales Institute for Science and Art Prof Walsh maintains a keen interest in the development of the economic and cultural life of the region. His research interests include the role of design thinking in assisted living and nurturing organisational and individual innovation.
Prof Walsh is currently the academic lead on The Innovation Matrix, a £9.3m development supported by the Swansea Bay City Deal. The Innovation Matrix will bring University research and knowledge exchange centres together with cutting edge innovative businesses to the SA1 Waterfront Innovation Quarter.

As a graduate from the University of Plymouth, and with both business and management qualifications, Anna has held several positions within leading organisations in both the private, public and tertiary education sectors over the last 30 years. This has enabled her to develop not only sector specific experience, but also valuable and transferable administrative, organisational and management skills within these changing sectors. Her knowledge is specifically in relation to the sustainability and now civic mission agendas within the public and voluntary sectors in Wales and wider over the last 15 years.
As a highly-motivated and performance driven individual, she has a proven track record of providing exemplary levels of service which includes high quality policy advice to a broad range of audiences, excellent relationship management and communication skills, experience of developing and contributing to sustainability projects and policies locally, regionally and nationally. She has supervised and developed the INSPIRE student internships, doubling the number of students accessing the opportunity over the last 8 years to help provide student learning opportunities in and around various sustainability and civic mission agendas.
Her skills also embrace budget management, research, data analysis, interpretation of official documents and guidance, external and internal engagement, including Welsh Government and the Future Generations commission in Wales, formulating reports and participating in regional group projects, consultations, etc. She holds vast experience with regards to implementation and interpretation of the Wellbeing of Future Generations Act (Wales) 2015 and its requirements, as well as the links to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Much of her work related to these areas includes external engagement and sustainability. Her more recent work includes the implementation of the Civic Mission requirements within the University, whilst also working with a number of other external partners within the private, public and voluntary sectors related to food, environmental and creative industries.

He went on to form his own specialist property finance and acquisition company helping select clients build diverse property portfolios.
He is a founder partner of The Adoreum Club a London based network and consultancy community.
He’s the creative director and co founder of PopEx a music Web 3 platform that was developed as a start up during the covid pandemic to give artists and musicians alternative income streams in the digital / Web 3 and Metaverse space. PopEx was selected on the Outlier Ventures accelerator and raised seed funding of $3.4m early in 2022.
He has a songwriting and production company based between London and Wales and a Music Publishing company in partnership with TileYard London.

Professor Elwen Evans, KC, is Vice-Chancellor of the University of Wales and the University of Wales Trinity Saint David (PCYDDS).
Professor Evans read Law at Girton College, Cambridge, graduating with a double first: M.A. (Cantab). On graduating she attended the Inns of Court School of Law and was called to the Bar by Gray’s Inn in 1980. She was appointed Queen's Counsel in 2002.
Professor Evans has enjoyed a very successful career as a barrister, choosing to practice mainly in Wales. She has undertaken a wide range of legal work, specialising in criminal law at trial and appellate levels. Her work has included many serious, complex, sensitive, and high-profile cases such as leading the prosecution team in the April Jones case and the defence team in the Gleision mine disaster case. She sits as a Crown Court Recorder having been appointed in 2001. She was Head of Iscoed Chambers for over 15 years prior to her appointment as Head of the College of Law & Criminology at Swansea University in 2015 where she was responsible for establishing the Hillary Rodham Clinton School of Law. In 2020, she was appointed Pro-Vice-Chancellor and Executive Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences and is credited with having led the successful growth of the Faculty during this period. Her portfolio also included strategic leadership of the University's civic mission activities and the successful development of the University's relationships with key partners, including alumni and donors.
A native Welsh speaker, she is a Bencher of her Inn, has been honoured by Gorsedd y Beirdd for her services to Law in Wales and was a Commissioner on the Commission on Justice in Wales. She has served on a wide range of external bodies and committees reflecting her areas of professional experience and interest. In 2018, she was included in the top 10 of a list celebrating 100 of Wales' most inspirational women.
Executive Director of Commercialisation at UWTSD
As the Executive Director of Commercialisation at UWTSD, Gary is responsible for managing numerous large-scale knowledge exchange and infrastructure projects aimed at promoting innovation and entrepreneurship across the university. In addition to directing UWTSD's Research, Enterprise, Civic Engagement, and Commercial agenda, Gary brings over 15 years of experience in delivering major economic development projects to his role.
Throughout his career, Gary has worked with prominent financial institutions such as the World Bank, Caribbean Development Bank, African Development Bank, and European Investment Bank, managing projects aimed at promoting economic growth and development in developing countries. His experience in delivering successful projects has provided him with valuable expertise in project management, economic development, and strategic planning.
Cardiff University
Kevin Morgan is Professor of Governance and Development at Cardiff University, where he is also the Dean of Engagement. His main research interests revolve around (a) devolution in multilevel polities (b) theories, policies and practice of regional innovation systems and (c) sustainable food systems, with particular reference to public food provisioning. In addition to his academic work, Kevin actively engages with the worlds of policy and practice and he has worked for the OECD, European Commission and regional development agencies and regional governments around Europe. He is currently writing a book about 'the power of the public plate', focusing on the challenge of sustainable food provisioning in schools, hospitals and prisons.
